Winter Festival--Video Footage, Download the Free Player Below The Pipeline Bungy Winter Festival Boarder-X
Three days into Winter Festival here in Queenstown and the toll is starting to show. Last nights Mardi Gras street festival downtown has left a few people looking pretty rough.Mega beer and dancing in the crowded streets is a good warm-up, but thats nothing compared to the rough and tumble at todays Boarder X at Coronet Peak.

It is the first in an infamous weekly series, top local riders join teams of three competing against all comers for glory and great prizes. Top talent from Canada, Australia, USA and Japan turned up for todays event held in the sunshine on Greengates run.

"For many a sponsorship driven media smooze fest , but to the rest of us a huge week of fun and drunken antics in the mountains...!"

With the recent lack of snow in this part of the world, course design was definately a challenge but riders all seemed fully stoked on the efforts of race organisers. The course was extremely hard and fast with three nasty rollers directly out of the start gate causing havoc. This proved to be a prime viewing location as in some of the 6 man heats, not a single rider survived unscathed.

Fast and furious racing continued with only two riders advancing knockout style into the next rounds. Very strong competition in the girls final proved a hit with spectators. Local Jana Gibson finished a strong first place followed by Swiss rider Linda Massy. In the men's final a huge battle emerged when Canadian rider Brent Kroeker took first place out of the start and blasted the course to win ahead of top Kiwi's Aaron Jamieson and Joel Webb.

Stay tuned as we have the Big Air and 1/2 Pipe to come.....
