Well here we go again..the 26th annual Queenstown Winter Festival. New Zealands very own unique homage to winter in one of the worlds classic resort towns. For many the Festival is a cheesy sponsorship driven media smooze. But for the rest of us it is a huge week of fun and drunken antics in the mountains. We plan a huge week of coverage for you..cutting through the hype and bringing you all the good stuff.

The snow gods have not been smiling on us recently, in fact there has been no natural snow in this part of the world for well over a month. Hopefully the lack of the white stuff (that kind...) will not put a damper on things. Of course the snow bound events are a big part of things but after hours, the bands and DJ's rev it right up in town. Over the years snowboarding has gained an ever increasing profile at the festival and this year has certainly attracted some impressive prizes. The line up of events features the first edition of the weekly Pipeline Boarder X series. It will be the first B-X event of the season so a bit of rough and tumble is guaranteed for all. Billed as one of the premiere events of the Festival is the Air New Zealand Big Air. Held under lights up at Coronet Peak they promise us the jump will be bigger than ever as our top riders compete for major travel prizes.
Or course the Festival would not be complete without a Half Pipe comp and Friday will see us all up at Coronet Peak. Hot on the heels of last weeks big comp at the Peak and the recent event at Mt Hutt ,top riders will be trying to knock Aaron Jamieson from his recent winning streak..
Stay tuned as we are in for a huge week.....
