HORUE 2000 - TAHITI:

Follow our Travels.
25 JUNE - 3 JULY// Papara Beach // TAHITI
Why would ya want to be hanging in the Snow?? :
The Horue 2000 :  Tahiti at it's best

The Contest The Horue 2000 is one of the biggest surfing events on the island of Tahiti every year. The comp's been going for 10 years and this year the organisers stepped it up with some imported help and international competitors with good prize money, thanks to corporate and government help! The comp ran for 7 days from June 25th at Papara Beach and scored reasonable 3-ft waves for most of the time. Local Hira Terinatoofa won the Open with a Hawaiian 2nd and legend Vetea "Poto" David 3rd. Paradise! Tahiti is the most insane tropical paradise you can possibly imagine! The beach the contest was on was fun but there were better waves all around the reef passes. But a lot of the locals seemed to stick to the beach break and not bother with the 10-15-minute paddles out to better waves so the most people I ever saw on a reef was 6.

"throw in the friendly people and uncrowded waves and it would seem I was in the perfect place for a couple weeks while the rest of you waited out the next dump of pow...!"

The water is incredibly blue and unbelievably clear. The sky is another amazing shade of blue. The sunsets last forever and have the most insane colours. The mountains are covered in bright green tropical rainforests. The fish are plentiful and the colours amazing! Basically Tahiti is your stereotypical island paradise - throw in the friendly people and uncrowded waves and it would seem I was in the perfect place for a couple weeks while the rest of you waited out the next dump of pow.

Hope that dump comes soon cause I'm home now and ready to ride! Shaydar.
