Remarkables NEW ZEALAND Sunday September 14th.
4:30pm N.Z.
Today was the last day of the annual Queenstown Spring Festival held up at the Remarkables. It is always a great event as the stress of the Nationals the week before is over and it is a great chance for all the local Queenstown and Wanaka boarders to get together for a bit of friendly competition. The day began with a dual slalom which was probably one of the best courses seen at a N.Z event, i.e it was steep, and icy with the first two turns seperating the men from the boys.
After two exciting head to head runs it was the Wanaka team who once again showed all their hard training is paying off. National Champ Marc Begg won the mens followed by Coronet Peak instructor Andrew Gooday. In the Womens it was Wanaka coach Martina from followed by Co Co Grant.
The Real event of the day was the water jump. 30 meters of freezing cold water to be plunged into. The day itself was cold with the odd snow flurry blasting through which put off all but the craziest competitors. For some reason it ended up to be mostly the japanese boarders prepared to go for it and entertain the huge crowd gathered to watch. First Prize 1000 bucks up for grabs but unfortunately it was a bloody skier who took it out with a massive air.
