March 12: First stop

RED MOUNTAIN B.C

At last we have left the sticky heat of Auckland and after an easy flight have arrived into the Canadian winter. We flew straight from Vancouver into Castlegar leaving us a half hour drive to Rossland which is the home of Red Mountain.

Talk about awesome!! We have just had 3 full on days of powder riding. Red has long been described as one of the best secret spots in Canada and I see why. Trees, powder, and no people make for perfect riding but the best thing is that it is so unbelievably cheap.

As living proof of this close to 50 KIWIS have bought seasons passes at Red (for about $500) and settled in for a few months.

Red is full of secret stashes and the key is to have someone with local knowledge at hand. Luckily for us the place is crawling with fellow kiwis and it didn't take long for us to hook up with a crew to guide us through some wicked tree runs.

Our last day at Red was epic, finally the sun came out and we were able to make a few missions with full Vis. The back side of Red Mountain opens up a whole new world with awesome lines thru old mining ruins and open glades.

Today is Travel day and we hit the road to Fernie which is about a 5 hour drive. Will update tommorow with the Fernie chapter.
