K2 Challenge

This is the first major event of the New Zealand circuit,
July 26/ 27 1997.

The first day of the K2 event was held in perfect conditions at Cardrona today. There was not a lot of snow but the course setters did a great job in the limited conditions. As the first major event it attracted a large turnout of racers keen to display their form for the coming season. The competition was extremely tight with several top Europeans giving the Kiwis a run for their money.

The morning saw the G.S event on a fast course in great shape. After a tight race Kiwi Marc Begg after much training won on his home course. Official Results are:

    The afternoon saw the Slalom event on a very tight, flat course which made for some very close runs and great spectator viewing. The women were extremely close with new comer Lee O'Conner giving current champ Pam Bell something to think about. Official Results are:
