QUEENSTOWN  NEW ZEALAND  Tuesday 24 June

As part of the Queenstown Winter Festival the Northwave, Ripcurl Boarder X was held in perfect weather on Coronet Peak today. This was officially the first event of the 97 season, and attracted well over 100 boarders keen to battle it out in the do or die elimination format. The snow drought finally ended last night with a small taste of fresh. This gave the race crew a chance to build an incredibly good course given the limited terrain available.

After a fun filled afternoon the final placings went to an unknown Swedish girl followed by Viki Course in the womens. And in the Mens division it was a clean sweep by the Burton Team Riders with
Deni Bevin winning followed by Mal Thomas and Chris McKenzie.
