I picked up the lucky winners at the
Queenstown airport on Friday afternoon, surprised that they all made
it in because of the heavy weather, all arrived safe and sound and
we loaded up the wagon and hit the road for Wanaka. I was hoping that
the southern lakes region would turn it on for the winners of the
comp and the weather maps was
looking toward a possible southerly clearance. |

We rolled into Wanaka and the pad we would call home for the next
few days. Delighted to find dinner and a warm fire awaiting us thanks
our cooks, Anna & Anna's Ma we
tucked in and pulled back. Early bird get the... so breakfast was
set for 7ish and we hit some hay.
Cold-clear-blue-skies are a good site to see if it's just dumped and
you can smell bacon & eggs don't you think?
Breakfast was downed and we headed for Cardrona mountain, tunes pumped!
Brilliant minds think alike and two wheel drives must use chains meant
it took a while to get
up there, all good though as most people were busy paying and mucking
and we the snow fast!
Crew hooked up after a warm up and it was on. Dylan Butt was shredding
with us too which was dope, yeah Dyl!
Powder is the best and every one was stoked, we rode until lunch and
then again till the end of the day. Once we got back to the pad we
realized how hard we had ridden
so stretched down and ate up. We were a little unsure of Sundays weather
and stoked to have had at least one epic day so breakfast was on for
8:30. We peeped some
Snowboarding vids and kipped out early.
I woke at like 5 or something and it was pissing rain, I hoped the
mountain was going to be open but we might have to settle for one
good day and maybe a bungy, jet boat
or the like, back to sleep then.
I think I must have been dreaming but there was 8cms of powder again
and it cleared and we rode, jumped, spun, stomped and ate #*!% all
day... again!
I was glad to be part of this weekend, all the people who won this
comp won it because they genuinely love Snowboarding. This not only
reflected in their entries but in
their riding enthusiasm, and friendly attitudes, attributes all good
Snowboarders posses.
Big thanks good out to Niki & Rach @ Vodafone and of course Mother
Nature for her blessing.
