The new all women's snowboarding event is aimed at
encouraging more female participation at all levels
of the sport, and to inspire women to acheive their
full potential in all aspects of life. This was the
first time the event was run, and was a great success
with 25 girls between the ages of 18 and 31, with
several from overseas, having loads of fun charging
around the mountain, trying out different riding
styles and new tricks off a nice kicker.
The event was organised by Pip Grant from Quest snowboard
shop in Queenstown, her aim for 'A Women's Quest' was
to create a social event that focused on women riding
together, sharing their skills and knowledge of the
sport and really making the most of the chosen terrain
and facilities. Pip feels that there is a need to celebrate
and encourage the growing presence of women snowboarders,
and hopes to make 'A Women's Quest' an annual event
open to all female snowboarders from around the country.
There were some wicked riders amongst the group on Sunday,
check out the nice form off the kicker that was built
by the ladies down from the Exchange Drop at Coronet
Peak. The event was sponsored by Quest, Burton, Ride,
Solomon, Sessions, Helly Hansen, Huffer, Concept, Smith,
Macpac, Queenstown events centre, nzski.com and Vudu
café. The cost of the weekend was $40 and there
were loads of fresh spotprizes given out. For more photos
of the event go to Vudu café on Beach St in Queenie
for a look at some real chick talent.
