Today goes down as one of N.Z's best Pipe events ever. A perfect blue sky day, a perfectly shaped pipe allowing the 50 men and 15 women riders to excel. A huge international crew of Japanese riders and 100's of spectators screaming for their favourite riders.
In one of the first half pipe events this season, nzski.com
sponsored freeride team members dominated the mens division
in the Coronet Peak Half Pipe.
Dylan Butt, Tim Jackaways and Deni Bevin came first,
second and third respectively in the mens finals of
the Coronet Peak Half Pipe event.
Yukiko Kohara won the womens event with Sayuri Ushiyama
and Carla Simcox in close second and third.
Terrain Park Coordinator Greg Boyd said the new
Jam format within each of the four categories was well
received by the competitors. "Excellent conditions with
a 15 foot high wall gave riders peak conditions for
the day." With blue skies and great snow conditions
the event attracted 53 competitors with close to 200
spectators. "It was a blue bird day up at Coronet Peak
yesterday."
Head judge Ste'en Webster was assisted by Rachel Newton,
Andreas Holmgren and Jarred Dowson to judge and tally
points for tricks from top riders like 900 degree rotations,
McTwists and double flips.
Highlites of the day were Dylan Butt pulling off perfect
HUGE methods and totally poked McTwists. The Jackways
brothers from Wanaka again proving their ability. Deni
Bevin pulling off perfect back to back 720's
