One of the first events of this kind, the QBA put the riders in the judging box – where riders followed a laid-back jam format and at the end of the day, they chose who they thought was throwing down the best tricks.

The call of the day seemed to be “that was huge!” as both spectators and riders watched New Zealand’s best freestylers huck themselves off the 50+ foot jump, with Quest Team rider Lance Watson even riding out of a double back-flip!

Steve Ferguson and Dylan Butt were going head to head in the caliber of their riding, with the fattest spins and meanest 540 underflips. Junior men Jacob Koia and young Ted Hana impressed the crowd with their solid riding, surpassing the level of most kids their age.

Local free-skier Oddy Graham proved his skill by pulling the craziest switch 720s, and was backed up by younger free-skiers Jason Shutt and Charles Anderson.

In the women’s section local riders Hana Sullivan and Fiona Duncan were pulling some tidy spins, while Sharon Parker was going big and super styley!!! The junior girls were also charging, with sisters Christa and Laura Woerlee leading the way for the women by hitting the jump first to test it out, and pulling some nice styley tricks to top it off.

A big shout out to Downtown Brown and MC P Diggity who kept the tunes rolling all day, and of course not to mention The Remarkables, Northwave, Drake, Gravis, Huffer, Iris and Ride who sponsored the massive cash prize pool that was dished out to the lucky riders:
