More than 60 competitors over the age of 30 dusted
off their racing suits Saturday September 1st for the
6th annual New Zealand Snowboard Masters. The day comprised
of a dual slalom in the morning, boardercross in the
afternoon and a dinner and prize giving party at the
historic Cardrona Hotel in the valley below.
Guy Alty, of Higher Ground Distribution, said "it's
epic to see the crew turning up for a big day, and great
to see everyone syked".
Rachel Milner, one of Cardrona's own, said that "It's
been a great
atmosphere and a friendly competition, and I'm looking
forward to the party
tonight!" Rachel took 5th overall, with a 5th in
the boardercross and 4th in
the dual slalom. Minna Ruski, of Queenstown, narrowly
won the women's
overall from Michelle Freeman, of Queenstown.

| The men's field was divided into juniors,
30-39 years, and seniors, 40 years
plus. In the junior section, Graham Dunbar, of Christchurch
won the
boardercross over Jon Malcom Smith, of Auckland, while
Jon Malcom Smith
narrowly won the dual slalom over Graham Dunbar. Jon Malcom
Smith ended up
taking overall 1st place in the junior category. |

In the seniors, Martin White of Wanaka,
was a clear winner. He won first in both the boardercross
and the dual slalom, as well as first place overall in
the senior division.
There was a wide range of ages in
the seniors. From Cardrona's operations' manager Shaun
Gilbertson at 43 through to Alan O'Hagan of Christchurch,
who at 60, was the oldest competitor in the event.
"This
year's masters was certainly the largest yet," Nigel
Kerr, Marketing Manager, said. " We had beautiful
conditions all day and the atmosphere couldn't have been
better."
