Catching up with the Kiwi crew at
Whistler, Blackcomb
British Columbia/
Canada
This year I was here in Whistler about 3
months then headed off to Europe and Japan for FIS World
Cup competitions..
I've been in Whistler for several days
now. Getting over the jet lag and settling into another
northern hemisphere winter. Had the first day up Blackcomb
Mountain yesterday with local friends and partner in crime
Dylan Butt. We were happily greeted by some fresh snow
which we tried hard to track up. Although the 20-30cm
of new looked pristine we were riding tenitivly as a larger
snow base is still needed to cover up the remaining rocks
and tree stumps. The early season park and pipe are also
in good shape.
It's good to be back in Whistler, now feeling
a little like my second home being my sixth consecutive
season here. However things for me this season will be
quite different from past years. Usually I'm settling
in for the whole season, coaching and tearing up the mountains
with friends. This year I will be here for the month of
December then heading off to Europe and Japan for FIS
World Cup competitions.
The FIS World Cup will be making its stop
here in Whistler from December 8-11. There will be several
Kiwis here competing in the three events of BoardX, GS
and Halfpipe. NZ team members arriving in the next few
days include; John Shelly, Julianne Bray, Suzie Parker,
Louise Muier and of course Dylan Butt and myself.
Coarse Preparation has begun for all disciplines, registration
and training for Athletes will begin tomorrow. That's me for now, off up to the pipe to train. Will keep you all informed of results and happenings as they come to hand.
