DB : Whistler/Blackcomb,
well where do I start. I have been coming to this place now for the
last 8 seasons, why? Because it has it all, over 1.5km of vertical
drop, 33 lifts, easy access backcountry, 2 super pipes and 1 of the
best parks in north america. It's size & what you do with it that
counts round here. I will admit that Whistler is becoming a little
busier these days but there is still plenty of terrain and snow to
go around. Whistler has also become a Mecca for Snowboarding's superstars
over the last few years, not just for the huge resort but for the
limitless snowmobile backcountry and great night life too.
The Road Trip crew were lucky to get some good snow when in Whistler
which made it all the much better. We managed to head out back a little
to build a few jumps and ride some good pow for the first 2 days.
Once the pow was gone we headed to the park and pipe for some big
transitions and smooth metal. The Blackcomb 'Highest Level' Park is
made up of over 10 solid table top jumps with 2-3 take-offs on each
(30-70 ft tables), 2 large hips, 20ft down rail, flat-down rail, C-box,
wall-ride, rollercoster and A-frame rails. There is also an intermediate
park with hip jumps, rails and a cool jib-box that's great fun. Blackcomb
has also got themselves a new pipe shaper made by Zaugg that now sees
the pipe walls at 16-19 foot. If your keen to check out more info
on Whistler/Blackcomb head to www.whistler-blackcomb.com.
There is some great interactive terrain feature stuff in there and
solid weather info too.
Because of new insurance laws here Blackcombs legendary park has a
compulsory helmet and liability waiver rule in place for it's 'highest
level' jump and rail area.
After a good day on the mountain Ingrid's-deli makes the killer veggie
burgers and an après beer is always close at hand at one of
the many bars and decks in the village....
