On Tour 03 Mt Baker
phat pow
GL : Left Canada bound for the USA to the land of everything big. Big cars, big bags of chips, endless junkfood and cheap gallons of gas. Next stop was Mt Baker, staying with our mate Lance and his more than hospitable family. it was wicked! Big home cooked dinners and good comfy beds for all - couldnt of been any sweeter.

we had 3 days of riding and shooting in heaps of pow. The first day it didnt stop snowing all day, our first day riding on the road and there was over a foot of fresh. It was insane! Lance' the local' gave us the Baker tour, we rode some super sick steep and deep powder runs, in the trees and on untracked faces. no crowd clogging up the lifts or stealing our lines. someone/thing was definately looking out for us.... the epic days riding did take its toll, we were all shattered. it was home, couple of beers, fat feed and strait to bed.

We got up super early 5:30am, charged up the hill, 8th in the lineup for first tracks. Bluebird conditions for the first 2hrs. It was unbelievable. Inbounds, first tracks, waist deep pow, dejavu.... Later that day, went back country to a run called Hemisphere. It was a wee hike up the ridge from the top chair, passed a mickey booter which we tried to poach the next day but got caught. doh! then it was a sick run over wicked big rolly powder fields in about 3 foot of fresh. SICK!

Another really early morning, not as much fresh as the previous days, but we still found good drops and shutes to go off. Then we went after the tree runs as they were still mostly untouched. Again finding waist deep pow in hidden forest areas, just from dropping off the cattrack. Awesome! Heaps of fun for us all, then sussed out the famous Mt Baker Rd gap, bit if'y, save for next time...

DB : Now  I know why Mt Baker breeds legends, Craig Kelly (R.I.P.), Jamie Lynn, to name a few. Mt Baker is a relaxed place, happy people with purmer grins, because it dumps here and lift access to the terrain u can hit is almost unlimited. On to Bakers old No6 chair for another ride to the top, to hit another line. Locals are key for a great time anywhere, thanks to Lance, Ben, Tony and crew - the cream of Bakers crop. I/we have to go back because i need to get the sticker, cause I LOVE BAKER!
