On Tour 03 Fernie

JB : Last day at Red the weather crapped out and my swellbow was still the size of a golf ball, so we packed the van and rolled onto Fernie. Went thru the dodgey Kootenay Pass that had just had big avi danger, but roadworks had been hard out it to give us our passageway to the other side. We were stopped further down the road for proper roadworks, not just snow removal, and me and JK ran up the hill and started hucking snowballs at the van. got one thru the window and sconed Deni in the drivers seat. Deni got his revenge, not on me but JK with one smack bang to the back of the neck. once the snowballs ranout, boys will be boys - we went onto rocks....

We stopped in Cranbrook to pick up some 'cold beer' because you haf'to buy it from a 'cold beer' store. It costs a bit more but its 'cold beer'. Next stop was fireworks - I saw a sign as we flew past. It was this crazy little mum & pop gas station. The little old lady who had slow tangy accent like the female cop outta Fargo even checked us all for our ID. Stu had dark hair so he was granted to be older! So we loaded up on fireworks and punkrocked our way to Fernie. We found Abby's place with little trouble which was lucky because I really needed to pee. Unloaded the van and chilled for a bit, then went for supplies in town - more beer and tequila. As we were leaving, I thought it was time to test the roman candles we had purchased earlier. I shot one at the house as we drove off, straight thru the doorway, past Stu and into the lounge. I believe Stu made a good fireman as the house was still there when we got back. It took us a while to find the bottle store but once we got home we got drunk, let off more fireworks, put panties on JKs face and tried to hog tie him but couldnt get it right. JK came out 'swinging like tyson', clocked me a few times and then proceeded to tell us a story about when he was a dinosaur. Jake the Dino in a previous incarnation. Then I went to town with Alyssa and Canadian Jamie. It was open mike night at some bar the name of which I cant remember. Somehow I got a guitar, jammed for a while but I was crap because I couldnt remember how to move my fingers properly. No one seemed to notice, they were probably trashed. Crazy night, Alyssa got kicked out for glass bowling on the bar. She got a strike, broke many glasses. Tried break dancing but again I was crap so I gave up and went home. The house was trashed, I was beat so I passed out.

Next morning, not feeling too sharp but the weather looked ok. Rolled up the hill, Abby and Alyssa were our tour guides. It was wet and slushy unfortumately because of the rain. We missed out by just 2 days.Had a jib around the hill, found some nice little pops/ gaps/ trees to jib. Landings were sticky but very forgiving. Heaps of steeps to shred if there was powder. Hope to hit it on a powder day some time.So we went to check the park.Good mix of beginner rails with some nice bigger features like a big C rail with double coping that twisted to make it quite sweet. Also a 2m wall ride but it was closed due to the rain. Some nice back to back hips and a cool banked slalom part that was fun at the bottom of the park. Then was a flat down kink (3m flat, 4m down), sun came out so we hiked it for a bit. Super fun to gap, but unfortch the rain came in so we went down for lunch. Rain didnt let up so the day was cut short. All in all a fun day - just a shame we hit it after the rain. POTENTIAL. Mad terrain on a pow day, heaps of spots for kickers, park was good, town is fun good place to party...
