World Famous Cake Bake
Burton's infamous weekend of boarding & baking:
Once again Lake Ohau Lodge and Burton host one of the worlds most awesome snowboarding events. A short 2 hour drive from Queenstown and we discover a wacky mix of N.Z's snowboarding elite, visiting Aussie pro's with camera crew in tow, and rugby fans.
Saturday's premiere event, the powder 8's, was cancelled due to a lack of ideal conditions. i.e the normally powder packed ridge run was not exactly light and fluffy!! So of course next stop is the Lodge, hot tub, and massive session leading up to the weekends highlite for many ...the cake bake. Numbers this year seamed down on previous years but this was more than made up for by the imagination of the bakers.. Head judge Michelle Freeman commenting that "Points were given for creativity but ultimately the cake has to taste good! unfortunatly several front runners failed miserably in this area!"

After a serious taste off and crowd participation long time entrant Ste'en Webster was declared the winner, later admitting that his recipe was recently purchased at auction in the UK specially for the event. A big night had by all including all black rugby battle with the Aussies and UGLY head shaves for the dumb kiwi losers..Bad luck boys!

Sunday is Boarder X relaxed Ohau style but a well put together course combined with hot snowboarders equalled some great racing.
