DAY TWO N.Z SNOWBOARD CHAMPS 1999
The Flagship event of the N.Z Snowboard Nationals.. The Half Pipe, was held today in perfect condtions at Cardrona. Recent snowfalls and a lot of effort went into creating a world class Pipe for N.Z's best to show their stuff to the biggest crowd yet at any kiwi event.
The morning qualifying round gave riders two runs to make the cut for the afternoons final, the competition most intense in the senior mens division chopping the field in half to the top 16.
Highlites of the day were:
Glen Howe busting the hugest airs out of the pipe, probably the biggest of the day, Aaron Jamieson pulling out huge McTwists , Jason Picklemann doing Rodeo and switch spins.crazy stuff. Deni Bevin was exceptionally smooth and solid, continuosly flying, taking him to first place in the mens. Dylan Butt , the defending champ was riding true to form, with massive clean airs, but unfortunatly not landing as smooth as he would like. Trev Ponting , with dredlocks flying pulling nice 720's out of the bag. Credit also has to go to the Japanese contingent showing there flawless technical abilities and also the award goes to them for the screaming fans lining the course.
The girls also proved how good they are..Suzy Parker & Juliane Bray both riding strong proving they are the best with Ju Bray taking first place. The Junior men also impressed with Mitch a crowd favourite and the winner Jah Harris riding ahead of his years to take 1st place.
