August 14: Canterbury Regional Champs
Half Pipe and Suprise Guests at Methven Big Air:
The Queenstown based Sub20/nzski.com team of Deb, Aaron, Glen, Jacob..head north..early start of 6:00am Friday. It's a mission but Geraldine proves a welcome stop for a quick skate in the local bowl.
Next stop Christchurch and like true pro's it's straight to sponsors..Smith Burton and Cheapskates for a quick visit and gear check. A quick tour of the record stores and scoff of Italian and then it's off to Rakia Lodge..Team HQ for the weekend, an early night in anticipation of the comp ahead.
Saturday is half pipe day and an early start for the crew ,keen to do well. The pipe was in awesome shape with a collection of New Zealands best riders strutting their stuff..Dylan, Deni, Trev, Jerry Caird, Steve Scott..all amping on the perfect conditions. Coronet Peak gave up their pipe shaper for the weekend and once again proving it does the business.
The only bummer of the day was one of the team groms Jacob busting his collar bone..going way big and loving it!
The comp ended up with Hutt Local Neills 1st followed by our own Aaron Jamison 2nd and Quentin Robbins 3rd. Proving her great form of the moment was Suzy Parker from Wanaka taking out the girls.
After a wicked afternoon of freeriding the crew headed along with what seemed like thousands to Methven for the Big Air Event.
Suprise visits by legends Terje H and Brian Iguchi set the crowd on fire.... once again local riders proving they can foot it with the best in the world.
Aaron J claimed 1st place with a switch rodeo flip. Terje pleasing the crowd with his outrageous mid air board ditching trick..
All in all a legendary weekend with some of the sports biggest names revelling in the fun and uniquness of Kiwi snowboarding.
