Sunday 25th July: The K2 Giant Slalom at Cardrona:
GIANT SLALOM EVENT AT CARDRONA TODAY:
A large field of fifty riders took to the giant slalom course today in the
K2 Snowboard Challenge
event held at Cardrona Alpine Resort .
The competitors were riding hard and fast on the course. New talent came
to the forefront this
year . Rachel Newton clearly won the women's division, while Vicky Course
(2) and Jana Gibson (3)
were hot on the tails of each other for 2nd and 3rd place.
The men races were also extremely tight. Kota Sudo, from Japan, and Martin
Sporli, from
New Zealand, raced fiercely against each others times today. Although
Martin produced the fastest
time of the day in his second run, his overall time wasnt quite fast
enought to beat Kota. Greg
Prouse came in close behind in third.
The prizegiving will be held at Paddy tavern in Wanaka tonight.
