A field of 85 competitors lined up for the annual K2 Boarder-X up at Treble Cone. This year the skiers must have been feeling left out because there was even a category for the 2 plankers.
Last years winner, Wanaka local Nick Bourke was the hot favourite. With a remarkable display of smooth and balanced riding he charged through to take the podium again this year as number one.
Jana Gibson, from Great Barrier Island, won the womens title ahead of top Alpine Racer Lee O'Connor. Jana is new to the competition scene but with her performance today has sent a clear message that she is one to watch.
The course was set up in the Saddle Basin through a large natural 1/2 pipe with fresh powder conditions. Long and very fast the course tested the best riders and caused many to take a few big spills.
Stay tuned for weekly reports....
