Southern Lakes Snowboard Champs August 23rd 1998:
Friday was the first ever Southern Lakes Snowboard Champs up at Coronet Peak. At last the snowgods had smiled on Queenstown with 20cm of fresh snow falling the night before and a perfect day for the comp. To make things even better Cardrona was nice enough to send over the Pipe Dragon groomer to buff the 1/2 pipe.
The result was what many of the large number of competitors described as the best 1/2 pipe ever to be riden in New Zealand. With such perfect conditions in the Pipe riders were able to pull some of the biggest airs ever and the standard of riding was inspirational to say the least.
