ETA Naturals Big Weekend of Boarding.. August 23rd 1998:
It was a case of friend or foe in the final of the men's boardercross event
during the ETA Naturals Big Weekend of Boarding at Cardrona Alpine Resort
on Sunday.
All four of the finalists gunning for the winning title are acquaintances
spending this season riding in Wanaka. The eventual winner was Stephen
Scott, from Auckland, followed by American Rick Clairmont and Steen
Webster, of Wanaka. Chris MacKenzie, also of Wanaka, took out the fourth
position.
In a strong women's field the Queenstown riders shone through with Rene
Hollis crossing the line inches ahead of Jana Gibson and Rachel Newman, all
of Queenstown. Robin Soifer of Salt Lake City, Utah came home in fourth
place.
Yesterday 's boardercross event wrapped up the ETA Naturals Big Weekend of
Boarding which started on Saturday with the NZ Extreme Snowboarding
Championship.
Marketing manager and event co-ordinator Nigel Kerr was impressed with the
ability and class of riders who competed during the two-day event.
