BURTON OPEN SLOPESTYLE FINALS
Thurs 11th August 2005
Fully refreshed with the free lunch, muffins and all things snackable, me and the other finalists made our way back to the top of the course. It was still 100m visiblity but the snow was super soft and it wasn't as bad as it looked. The ladies got off to a dope start with all the females charging up a storm. Molly Aguire was throwing front 5's of the big one and back 3's off the others. The dudes stepped up too with a "all or nothing" approach. 1 practise and 2 judged runs with the best run counting. It was soo on!! All the crew were just going for it with steez from top to bottom.

Ok, so the finals were cranking, the beats were pumping, the crowd waited and the riders threw down. It was an intense final with more than a few riders not stomping what they wanted including myself. I was seeing, gap to back lips on the down flat down but Mark "Rat" Anderson, Back to back 7's from US Pro Danny Davis, Super steez from Hana Sullivan and Julian Bray for the ladies with smooth top to bottom runs. Nick Hyne was getting out of control as usual and stomping some bangers for sure.

I crashed my first run so it was the last run and everyone was in the same boat....... "Go For Gold!!" This was it and it was amazing to see 6 of the 15 finalists in the Burton Open being NZ'ers including:

Nick Hyne
Nick Brown
Will Jackways
Tim Jackways
Holler
Mark Anderson

The Jackways stayed cool and calm as usual getting some solid runs on lock. It was a bit hard to stay in "report" mode when I was about to drop in but it was all good. The vibe was super tight and all the Kiwi Crew gathered tight to try and hold it down for NZ and hold it down we did. Another run through and everyone pretty much knew what was up. We all thought different crew had done dope but it wasn't until I heard of Nick Hyne's demolition of the course that I knew the Kiwi's were about to keep NZ on lock on the podium. Hyne with cat like super flex and gorilla stomp rolled through with frontside on the high rail to front 270 on the down ledge to gangster nose press on the gap butter box rail to front 7 to SWITCH BACK 9!!! Yeah boy!!! So the finals were done and the crew dispersed back to the Noodle bar to get bags and the it was to the court yard to wait for the results. The ladies were up and it was Cardrona homegirl and Olympic charger JULIAN BRAY winning the womens and my boy NICK HYNE winning the mens!!! THE KIWIS TOOK IT OUT!!! With 90% of the field being overseas the NZ posse took it out. $5000 each for Nick and Julian and it was a done day. Good on ya crew and keep it ruling!! Catch you tomorrow. Peace.
