Vodafone Rail Jam
cardrona / july 16
Big air and rail slides were the order of the day in the Vodafone Rail Jam at Cardrona Alpine Resort today.

With many of the world’s top riders here for tomorrow’s Burton NZ Open, the standard of riding was spectacular with crowds lining the slopes to catch a piece of the action.

The rider-voted winners were Wanaka's Tim Jackways in the men's and Molly Milligan (CAN) took the girls' award.

"Tim made it look easy with his solid smooth riding on everything," said current New Zealand national champion, Dylan Butt. "Molly rode really hard, proving the girls are definitely a force to be reckoned with."

Neil Connolly (CAN), who is currently ranked #2 on the FIS World Cup circuit for big air, took out the men's best trick award for his perfect Cab 900 off the kicker. Local rider, Abby Lockhart (Wanaka) earned the respect of her peers for her excellently executed frontside boardslide on the urban rail.

"This was a great start to what promises to be an excellent weekend for New Zealand snowboarding," said Cardrona spokesperson, Nigel Kerr. "Rider voted events are always good fun and there's nothing like earning the respect of your peers. If today’s anything to go by, the standard of riding in the pipe tomorrow is going to be remarkable."

The Burton NZ Open takes place from 9.30am tomorrow in Cardrona's Moro Monster Superpipe. Competitors will include top riders from Canada, USA, Japan, Europe, Australian and New Zealand
