Fresh snow over the last few days made for the perfect back drop
for the Ansell expression session. An Antarctic blast of freezing
weather hit Queenstown last night to leave a perfect winters
day in the resort for events at Coronet Peak today.
Huge credit goes out to the Coronet Terrain Park crew for pulling
a great Pipe together in the current frustrating snow conditions.
A very small turnout of riders mixed it with the skiers. A highlight
for many been top Kiwi Dylan Butt sessioning with the crew and showing
his obvious talent.
A crowd of around 50 people watched the 25 competitors perform
McTwists, front and backside grabs and other tricks
for the judges. The "Jam" format allowed the riders to
session as many runs as they wanted and to nominate the 2 runs they
wished to be judged over. It is a relaxed format enjoyed by all.
First place in the male snowboard division went to Burch Marcel
(20) of Switzerland, while Brad Prosser (19)of Wellington was first
in the Skier division.
Normally famed for her snowboarding prowess, Queenstowner Christa
Woerlee (19) took first place in the Womens Ski division while
Abby Lockhart (21) of
Coromandel grabbed the top prize in the Womens Snowboard division.
Taking the junior prize for snowboarding was Ted Hanna (13) of
Queenstown.
