Ansell Big Air // Queenstown Winter Festival   1/2 Pipe Session

Coronet Peak

A crowd of 2000 witness the first major event of the Southern Hemisphere season. Thankfully blessed by the snow gods at the last minute. Held under lights on a clear chilly night this annual bash was a huge crowd pleaser.

The finals of the Big Air kicked off with some of N.Z's biggest names. Dylan Butt, Deni Bevin, Jake Koia, Anthony Leffalar to name just a few. The competition format pushed the riders for variety and combined the two runs for final placings.

Switch Corkscrews, big rotations, back flips and rodeos were thrown down in the mens. Visiting European riders making a big presence rocking solid spins and inverts to push the limits of the Kiwi riders.
Great crowd response amped by DJ Luca rocked the cold night.

The local juniors impressed the judges and the crowd with their solid big airs footing it with the senior men. In the womens Hana Sullivan went upside down with a clean backer and solid spins.

Down to the final Dylan Butt went huge showing his experience in the inverts, Leffalar with the spinning action and Heath Patterson who qualified 1st for the final all making the judges job very hard. It was obvious the riders that have put in the time in the Northern Hemisphere time on the snow paying off.

In all a perfect night on great snow to kick off the N.Z competition season. Congrats to all the riders who busted out on a very cold night and icy conditions.
