The purpose of the Jam was to focus on a fun filled relaxed atmosphere
where girls of all different levels of snowboarding could learn
new skills in a world class facility such as Snowpark. Many thanks
go out to the visiting European professional snowboarders, Lisa
Filzmoser, Stine Brun Kjeldaas, Leslee Mckenna and Tina Birbaun
who took time to be with us over the Camp. They are touring the
world filming for the up and coming Dropstich video to be released
in 2004.
Saturday began when 27 female snowboaders gathered to embark on
this unique weekend. Some of the girls had never snowboarded before
whereas others wanted to gain confidence in a park environment and
learn new skills.
With a tightly structured weekend ahead introductions and welcomes
kicked off another blue bird weekend up at the Wanaka Snowpark.
Over the course of the two day camp there were seven New Zealand
coaches Julianne Bray, Hana Sullivan, Abbey Lockhard, Alisha Hosking,
Hayley Holt, Sharon Parker, Laura Woerlee and head coach Canadian
Leanne Pelosi. Leanne is from MGT girls only snowboard camps in
Western Canada.
The coaches focused on getting to know the campers and figuring
out common goals for the weekend.
Nikita was the primary sponsor donating $13,500 worth of product
which was distributed amongst the girls over the two days.
"Nikita is very excited in establishing a camp for girls with
Snowpark's debut session. Nikita looks forward to developing the
camps and working hand in hand with Snowpark in the future"
says NZ Nikita distributer Eddie Spearing.
During the two days many girls hit rails, boxes, entered the Superpipe
and began jumping for the first time.
With loads of encouragement and demonstrations from the coaches
the campers received the confidence they needed to attempt facets
of snowboarding they'd only dreamed of. Snowpark provided a beautiful
lunch both days and we also took to the Wanaka Skatepark followed
by a yummy pizza dinner at Tuatara, giving us all time to mingle
and make new friends.
During the Nikita Jam we did a lot of filming which allowed us
to analysis our snowboarding and discuss improvements that can be
made. Many of us had never seen ourselves snowboarding so some scenes
were hilarious.
To end the camp prizes were given to all the campers and the most
improved of the weekend went to Debs. Nicole Tapper was also awarded
for beginning her snowboarding with us.
"The camp exceeded my expectations, I don't think there is
a single thing I didn't like" "No pressure heaps of encouragement"
I really liked going down the halfpipe for the first time"
"Fantastic weekend"
"The coaches were really good and friendly and video analysis
helped me heaps"
These are just a few comments left by some of the campers.
The Nikita Girls Jam 2003 being the first of it's kind was a raging
success, we will be having many more camps like this in the future
so keep checking the snowpark website for dates for next winter

Spring is here, so keep shredding and we look forward to seeing
you up at Snowpark
